Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake to stage annual air show, fireworks display

The "Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake air show" returns on July 7 at 6 p.m. to provide its spectacular fireworks display that is visible to boaters and shore huggers all over the lake area. The event, which drew an estimated 40,000 people last year, provides free viewing from boats, the lake's shores, local parks and private residences. The air show featuring both civilian and military aircraft flying within 500 feet of the ground culminates with the fireworks show after dark. It is billed as the fifth-largest airshow in the nation and the only one flying over water in the Southwest. The "thunder" in the show's name refers to the sound of the jets flying low over the lake. Although the show and fireworks display is available to watch by the public for free, VIP seating for the event is available at the Pinnacle Golf and Boat Club for a $50 donation to the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation that sponsors the annual show. A reception will be held on July 6 at the Pinnacle Golf and Boat Club for ticket holders to meet the pilots who will be operating the aircraft in the show. This year's event includes performances by Fighter Jets, Inc., Jan Collmer Airshows, Otto the Helicopter and Trojan Phly. The proceeds of the air show benefit the Cedar Creek Veterans Foundation which is a nonprofit organization established to raise money for the physical and emotional recovery and rehabilitation of injured and disabled military personnel and veterans in the North Texas area. Thunder Over Cedar Creek Lake is the principal fundraising activity. The organization reports that 47,000 men and women have been wounded serving in the military since 2001. Most of the pilots participating in the show represent the Navy, Marines and Air Force, and they donate their fees to the charitable cause. The organization contributes money to the Fisher House in Dallas, which provides a home for the families of hospitalized military personnel and veterans. A $14,000 check was presented to Fisher House officials by the foundation for the funds to be used to supply food, linens, gas and other services for residents of the facility. Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 12)

GOOD. stained; 58 degrees; 0.10 feet above pool. The bite is consistent. The hybrid and white bass deadsticking bite will be here for just a few more weeks while the water temperature increases with the warmer weather. The white bass and hybrids will be making their run into the creek arms and will settle in along shallow points and shallower water to lay their eggs for spawning. Use half ounce to 1-1/2 ounce jigs with 4-5 inch plastic flukes depending on what the winds are and drift long lengths of the lake in 22-36 feet of water. Drift at speeds of .2-.6 mph using your drift mode on your trolling motor or using drift socks. If the winds are not too bad you can just drift with the wind. Thumping on the bottom of your boat will attract fish and group them up underneath as you drift. Utilizing a splasher also works well with thumping. Try smaller sized plastics as the bite will be smaller sized baits. Look for Birds and Loons early mornings on shallow flats as the fish will come up to follow the bait and feed early especially on cloudier and colder days. The crappie bite is on docks and in creeks with minnows or jigs. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Still shallow around creek mouths and also drifting random depths 10-40 feet with cut shad or rough fish. Water is stained and surface temps are in the mid to.high 50's lake is full. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
