Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for March 16, 2013

Hi folks, Jason Barber here with the weekly kingscreekadventures.com fishing report for Cedar Creek Lake. The water level is at 3.3 low and the water temps are creeping into the low 60's. The water is still stained to muddy going up the lake. The crappie are surging into the shallows with fish being caught in as little as a foot of water. Jigs and minnows are good as always. Crappie can be caught under docks around rocks as well as in some deeper brushpiles. The bridges are holding good numbers of fish too, stay with the first few pillars from the shore for best results. Largemouth can be caught in the back of the spawning coves as well, use spinners and soft plastics as well as topwaters and shallow cranks. Fish any visible cover in 1 to 5 ft. also pitch jigs and tx. rigged plastics to all the docks back in the coves. Catfish are biting good in shallow water on the upper end of the lake. Fresh shad is a safe bet for bait but shrimp worms and minnows will catch fish too. For a bigger bite use live perch or goldfish or stay with bigger cut shad. fish from 1 to 10 ft. until you find where they are actively feeding. The sandies and hybrids are shoiwing up on points and ridges on the north end of the lake since there are no running creeks for them to travel into. The most of them are staging on hard bottom areas near the creek areas. Try standard artificial baits that usually catch striped fish and if that doesn't work get you some fresh shad and you should see some action. Cedar Creek Bait and Tackle is now located 1/2 mile south of the light in Seven Points on hwy 274 across from Poe motors. We have all your bait and tackle needs as well as a full time fishing and hunting guide service for you. Give us a call at the baitshop at 903-432-BAIT or reach me on my cell at 903-603-2047... Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Mar. 12)

GOOD. stained; 58 degrees; 0.10 feet above pool. The bite is consistent. The hybrid and white bass deadsticking bite will be here for just a few more weeks while the water temperature increases with the warmer weather. The white bass and hybrids will be making their run into the creek arms and will settle in along shallow points and shallower water to lay their eggs for spawning. Use half ounce to 1-1/2 ounce jigs with 4-5 inch plastic flukes depending on what the winds are and drift long lengths of the lake in 22-36 feet of water. Drift at speeds of .2-.6 mph using your drift mode on your trolling motor or using drift socks. If the winds are not too bad you can just drift with the wind. Thumping on the bottom of your boat will attract fish and group them up underneath as you drift. Utilizing a splasher also works well with thumping. Try smaller sized plastics as the bite will be smaller sized baits. Look for Birds and Loons early mornings on shallow flats as the fish will come up to follow the bait and feed early especially on cloudier and colder days. The crappie bite is on docks and in creeks with minnows or jigs. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Still shallow around creek mouths and also drifting random depths 10-40 feet with cut shad or rough fish. Water is stained and surface temps are in the mid to.high 50's lake is full. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
