Cedar Creek Lake Fishing Report for January 22, 2016

Hey folks, Jason Barber here with the www.Kingscreekadventures.com fishing and lake report for Cedar Creek Lake. The water level is at normal pool and the water temperature ranges from the high 40' to the low 50's. The water clarity is stained to muddy heading north and the fish are finally getting on a solid winter pattern.

Hybrids and Sandies are on mainlake flats in 25 to 40' of water feeding on schools.of shad suspended over deep water. Using shad imitations or small live shad, present the bait 5 to 15' off bottom depending on how the fish are positioned. As always during the winter, bump the bottom of the boat continuously to attract fish.

The crappie are deep for the most part, find offshore structure with cover on it and fish 24 to 50' of water while watching your graph constantly. The deepest water on the bridges or any deep brushpiles will hold fish now, Minnows and jigs are good.

Catfish can be found in 25 to 40' of water as well and fresh shad is the best bait for the job. You can drift over key areas or anchor for a while to see if the fish are active. You can also find some fish in 3 to 10' of water on the north end of the lake. The same approach will work for these fish.

Large mouth are both deep and shallow, you can stay out off points and humps in 10 to 24' of water and trow football jigs, drop shot and c-rigs or go to docks and rocks Try slow rolling a spinner bait or chatter bait as well as throwing a Rat-L-Trap in q to 6'. 1/4 oz to 3/8oz jigs should be worked slow and thoroughly under the docks especially the ones with brush or debris present.

Cedar Creek Lake

Fishing Report from TPWD (Oct. 30)

EXCELLENT. normal stain; 72 degrees; 3.28 feet below pool. Good stacks of hybrids and white bass are being found on midlake points and drop offs along sandy flats throughout the dam area, Crappie Island, Key Ranch and the spillway humps in 11-17 feet. Cast spinners and slabs and look for schooling fish on these flats as well as deeper seawalls and shorelines. Fish any hump in 14-22 feet throughout the lake to find fish stacked up in schools as the day warms up. Look for schooling fish on cloudy days. The birds have slowly started showing up as the weather has cooled off and we will be seeing more of these on a regular basis when it is cloudy. Use spinnerbaits or drop a slab down to the bottom and work it fast up and down and the fish will hit it immediately. Also throwing out a slab and reeling it back with a slow retrieve is also working well. Cast rattletraps, spoons, umbrella rigs, slabs or sassy shads to get the hybrids to bite. The crappie bite has been getting better. Target crappie with small jigs and minnows in 5-12 feet under bridge pylons, hidden brush piles throughout the lake or under docks. Crappie fisherman have been moving spot to spot finding limits. You may catch 4-5 and then have to move on to another spot on some days. Limits are being reported, although guides have been reporting conditions are improving with bigger sized fish being caught. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Catfish have started to bite in 3-10 feet of water on cut shad. Larger fish can be caught drifting in 15-24 feet. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
