TOOL -- Most of the homeless pets adopted out of the Humane Society of Cedar Creek Lake's animal shelter find new homes at adoption events.
That makes the shelter's animal transport van critical to the operation, and the current one saw its best days long ago. The 1989 Ford Van with over 300,000 miles stopped in its tracks at the recent Mabank Jubilee celebration.
Volunteer firemen pushed the van into the parking area so the Humane Society volunteers could unload the animal crates for the public to view the adoptable pets.
Shelter Director Krista McAnally said she has approached local business people, such as automobile dealerships, about donating a van to the shelter without success. The shelter would gladly and gratefully advertise the business on the van in return for the donation, she said.
The van needs air conditioning in both the front and back of the van to protect the animals from the Texas heat.
