Brookshire's to open Spring Market in Kemp over Labor Day Weekend

Brookshire’s Spring Market will open in Kemp on Highway 274 Sept. 3, according to store employees who are stocking the store and training at Brookshire’s in Seven Points.

The small food store, which will include gas pumps operating 24 hours per day, will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. The store’s director will be Amanda Blake.

There will be an official grand opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at the store, which Walmart built and operated for about nine months before closing it along with numerous other neighborhood stores in the East Texas area.

The store will sell beer and wine in addition to grocery products. There will not be a pharmacy.

Store employees said they expect residents and lake area visitors will be pleased with the “everyday low prices” of the products.

Kemp Mayor Laura Peace said the closing of the Walmart store greatly disappointed Kemp residents, and that city officials are thrilled to see Brookshire’s opening the market.

Brookshire’s, which is based in Tyler, is simultaneously opening about two dozen other Spring Markets in other East Texas cities that the 88-year-old food company bought from Walmart.
