New pastor appointed to lead Celebration on the Lake Church's LGBT congregation

Celebration on the Lake Church's congregation unanimously elected Mary Clair Lowence as its new pastor in September 2015.

She begins her pastorate immediately and will be formerly installed in a worship and celebration service Nov. 29. The church serves the lake's LGBT community, but it also welcomes all people and faiths into its membership.

Ever since she was 12 years old, Mary Clair wanted to be a minister. And for the past 27 years, she has been involved in ministry, according to a press release. She has served as pastor of small churches and large churches. She has been minister to older adults, youth and children. She has directed pastoral care and congregational life. Her ministry has also included being a hospice chaplain.

All of this has prepared her for her next great adventure as the newly elected pastor of Celebration on the Lake, according to the statement.

Celebration’s previous pastor, Kathy Bowser, retired in earlier this year and under her 10 years of leadership the church has grown, acquired land and built a beautiful building in Payne Springs. The church’s mission is to be a place where all are welcome, demonstrated in its inclusive and diverse congregation.

Rev. Lowrance is focused on continuing the work of Rev. Bowser by leading it into its future.

“We don’t know what the future holds, but we definitely know who holds the future! We have trusted God who has led us this far and God will continue to guide our journey and direct our dreams we have for our Church and for our community,” Lowrance said. “I am so excited for what is in store at Celebration. I know with every fiber of my being this is where God needs me to be!”

Rev. Lowrance and her soon to be spouse, Jaye, live in Fort Worth during the week. Lowrance is the Wellness Director at Lakewest Rehab and Skilled Nursing Center in West Dallas.

Fishing Report from TPWD (Dec. 18)

GOOD. stained; 55 degrees; 3.76 feet below pool. 55-57 degrees; 3.71 feet below pool. The hybrid and white bass winter deadsticking bite is now in full swing! Use half ounce to 1-1/2 ounce jigs with 4-5 inch plastic flukes depending on what the winds are and drift long lengths of the lake in the deepest water 35-50 feet. Drift at speeds of .2-.6 mph using your drift mode on your trolling motor or using drift socks. If the winds are not too bad you can just drift with the wind. Thumping on the bottom of your boat will attract fish and group them up underneath as you drift. Utilizing a splasher also works well with thumping. You will find the fish suspended between 22-28 feet when deadstricking. Look for birds and loons early mornings as the fish will come up to follow the bait and feed early especially on cloudier/colder days. The crappie bite has been getting better. Target crappie with small jigs and minnows in 7-15 feet under bridge pylons, hidden brush piles throughout the lake or under docks. Crappie fisherman have been moving spot to spot finding limits. Lots of crappies in the 7-9 inch range. Limits of crappie will happen but you may catch a lot of small ones getting to your limit. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. The shallow bite continues to be good for catfish along wind blown banks and points near the mouths of major creeks where the actual creek runs into the lake. Due to the low water you can only get a few hundred yards away. Fish in 2-6 feet with fresh shad anchored on bottom. The deep bite is also good dragging bigger cut shad or rough fish in 15-30 feet drifting main lake flats. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
