Shiloh on the Lake 4th Annual Thanksgiving Gathering

Shiloh on the Lake is a unique, “hidden gem,” equipped with a camp ground, RV park and all around great spot to fish, play or just relax!

Elaine Crowell, manager of Shiloh on the Lake, had many praises from the community for how well she put together the 4th annual Thanksgiving gathering held on Saturday, November 18th.

Many guests have come from here in the Cedar Creek Lake area and some came from as far as Waco. All came to enjoy the company, delicious food, festivities and each guest brought canned food for the food drive as well as a side dish.

Most of the dishes were homemade with what can only be seen as a labor of love.

Guests enjoyed games outside like washers and a fall themed “set up” for a family picture right outside the entryway.

There were games inside like, “count the candy corn,” and many gift bags passed out through a raffle. One guest, Phyllis Norman, won a 20% off her regular monthly fee as well as a Turkey was given away.

The feel in the atmosphere when walking into the community center, was said that it, “feels like a family reunion.” There were no strangers and each person told a story of that feel being at Shiloh on the Lake, runs throughout the year.

Chris and Natasha Henderson brought friends from Sherman and the youngest two of their six children, Lilly and “Dizzy.” In conversation over the meal, they explained they frequent this place at least 5 times a year, all the way from Waco!

Chris expressed his sadness over there not being too many places where he feels his children are safe or that he can trust his kids playing outside the way he can here. Furthering that when they are here, not only do security drive around at night making sure the place is safe and sound, they bring firewood to each resident when they need.

Natasha, as any mother would, kept a watchful eye on her kiddos, but also had a relaxed feel while “strangers” helped her son, “Dizzy,” with an art project at the craft table set up for anyone wanting to make a memory.

Patricia Wilcox, resident, said the, “fishing is great and it is a very quiet place to stay.”

Misti Alexander, Guest Relations, said it is a, “great opportunity” and she feels, “very blessed to work with and be around good people.”

Shiloh on the Lake has many opportunities for recreation, relaxation and a beautiful event center available for reservations throughout the year. Call and reserve your spot now for “Light up the Park” in December in either a cabin, camp spot or bring your RV!

Fishing Report from TPWD (Nov. 20)

GOOD. normal stain; 68 degrees; 3.32 feet below pool. The recent storms slowed down the fishing just a bit. Still finding hybrids and white bass on midlake points and drop offs along sandy flats throughout the dam area, Crappie Island, Key Ranch and the spillway humps in 11-17 feet. Cast spinners and slabs and look for schooling fish on these flats as well as deeper seawalls and shorelines. Fish any hump in 14-22 feet throughout the lake to find fish stacked up in schools as the day warms up. Look for schooling fish on cloudier days. Use spinnerbaits or drop a slab down to the bottom and work it fast up and down and the fish will hit it immediately. Also throwing out a slab and reeling it back with a slow retrieve is also working well. Cast rattle traps, Spoons,Umbrella Rigs, slabs or sassy shads to get the hybrids to bite. The crappie bite has been getting better. Target crappie with small jigs and minnows in 5-12 feet under bridge pylons, hidden brush piles throughout the lake or under docks. Crappie fisherman have been moving spot to spot finding limits. You may catch 4-5 and then have to move on to another spot on some days. Limits are being reported, although guides have been reporting conditions are improving with bigger sized fish being caught. Report by Brent Herbeck, Herbeck’s Lonestar Fishing Guide Service. Catfish are good on shallow flats in the mouths of the major creeks and the adjacent points and shorelines are holding fish in 2 -6 feet, or with fresh shad anchored or drifting on mainlake flats in 12-24 feet. This bite should hold up for another month or so. Report by Jason Barber, Kings Creek Adventures.
